It would be pointless trying to encourage tourist to the
canal side and town until the local dog owners take some
responsibility and clean up after their dogs along the
towpath. Although the majority of dog owners do clear up
after their dogs there are a few regular offenders who do
not care about others using the towpaths.
Too many people just ignore their pets mess and leave it on
the path which will then be trampled into local
houses/pubs/shops and not to mention the tourist’s boats.
What a pity for them to remember their holiday stay in
Market Drayton in this way.
My granddaughter was walking along the towpath recently,
slipped on mess left by a dog and would have ended up in
the canal itself if someone were not there to grab her. As
it was she was bruised and grazed, her clothes ruined and
very upset. It could very easily have been a disaster - and
all because one or two people don’t care.
Should we have more ‘patrols’ along the canal and maybe one
or two of these lazy (and probably minority) dog owners
fined for this offence then maybe the other selfish lazy
dog owners would start to act more responsibly. | Nicki |
